The best JABO, Sammy Mountain and Dave's Appalachian Swirl Marbles
JABO 2008 Peltier Mansion Run September 11–12, 2008:
This run was organized and funded by Boyce Lundstrom, a respected glass artist and investor who brought a unique vision to JABO’s experimental swirl production. Lundstrom’s involvement marked a shift toward using custom-made glass batches, crafted specifically for this run. He collaborated with David McCullough, JABO’s master marble maker, who executed the run on the ¾" Vitro machine at the JABO plant in Reno, Ohio.
Participants and guests included:
Michael Barton, who later created presentation boxes for the marbles and contributed to their documentation
John Triggs, who produced high-silver-content glass (between 72% and 84%) used in some of the metallic marbles
James Armstrong, another guest and contributor during the run
The run produced several named varieties, including:
“Pink Flamingo” and “Zygote”, named by Lundstrom himself
“Purple Betty”, another standout marble from the batch
These marbles are now considered rare and highly collectible. Many were retained by the original investors, making them difficult to acquire. The run is also notable for its use of silver metallic glass, aventurine, and other specialty materials that elevated the visual complexity of the swirls. According to collectors, Lundstrom had additional glass poured into bins to cool, intending to slice it later for other artistic applications.
